Footpaths

Kimpton has an impressive 21 Rights of Way. You can find out where they are using a map which has been published by Hampshire County Council. To find our local footpaths search for Kimpton and choose the footpath location you want to see on this webpage.

There are four types of public right of way:

  • Footpath – for walking
  • Bridleway – for walking, horse riding and cycling
  • Restricted Byway – for walking, cycling, horse riding and horse drawn carriages (or other non-motorised vehicles)
  • Byway Open to All Traffic – for walking, cycling, horse riding, horse drawn carriages and motorised vehicles. Most do not have a surface suitable for ordinary motor traffic

It is Hampshire County Council’s legal duty to record, sign and maintain public Rights of Way. You can read more about Public Rights of Way on the HCC website.

Hampshire County Council will inspect and clear obstructed Public Rights of Way once reported. To report an issue follow the link on our Contacts page.

Landowners are responsible for maintaining footpaths which are either on, or border, their land. You can read the Landowners guide to public Rights of Way here on the Hampshire County Council website. We do have a team of volunteer Footpath Wardens in the parish who help keep paths accessible. If you are interested in getting involved follow this link for more information or contact the Parish Clerk, Rachel Seddon at clerk@kimptonhampshire.org.uk.
