Volunteering

Volunteering is a fantastic way to support our community, meet new people, and make a real difference. Whether you have a few hours to spare or want to take on a bigger role, we’d love to hear from you! Here’s a list of all the opportunities that we currently have available in the community.

Parish Councillor

We currently have a vacancy for an additional Parish Councillor. Parish and town councils are the grassroots of local democracy, playing a vital role in representing the views and interests of their communities. By becoming a councillor, you will be part of a team working to improve the area and enhance the lives of fellow residents.

This role offers the chance to contribute your skills and knowledge while also providing an opportunity to learn new skills, meet like-minded people, and make a real difference. No prior experience is required—just a passion for the local community and a desire to help shape its future for generations to come.

How Do I Become a Councillor?

New councillors are elected through local elections, typically held every four years. To be eligible, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of any other member of the EU
  • Meet at least one of the following qualifications:
    • Be listed on the local elector register for the parish at the time of nomination and election
    • Have occupied land or premises in the parish as an owner or tenant for 12 months prior to nomination and election
    • Have had your main or only place of work in the parish during the 12 months prior to nomination and election
    • Have lived in the parish or within three miles of it for 12 months prior to nomination and election

If you’re interested in getting involved and helping to shape the future of our community, we’d love to hear from you!

A342 Working Group

The local Parish Councils of Amport, Appleshaw & Redenham, Fyfield, Kimpton, Monxton, Penton Grafton, Penton Mewsey and Thruxton have agreed that the A342 between Andover and Ludgershall is an important route which has been neglected in recent years and needs an urgent upgrade. We have agreed to work together to formulate proposals to improve the road. If you have any expertise of road design, engineering and planning and can assist the group in developing out thinking, please let us know.

Playing Field

We’re looking for volunteers to help cut back overhanging tree branches in the playing field. If you’re able to help and you have the tools, please email the Parish Clerk, clerk@kimptonhampshire.org.uk

Footpath Wardens

Did you know there are 21 footpaths in Kimpton Parish? While landowners are responsible for maintaining them, our team of volunteers helps to keep them accessible, safe, and enjoyable for walkers. We currently have three Footpath Wardens and are looking for more people to join the team, which operates as part of Hampshire Countryside Services. If you love the outdoors, this could be the perfect role for you!

Emergency Response Coordinators

The Parish Council is creating an Emergency Response Plan to help the community in case of severe weather, flooding, or other local emergencies. We have recruited a couple of volunteers to act as coordinators, ensuring an effective response when the plan is activated. We could always do with more help so if you’re organised, calm under pressure, and willing to help in an emergency, we’d love to have you on board.

Emergency Help

Do you have skills, training, or resources that could assist in an emergency? We are looking for volunteers who can offer support when needed most. Whether you have medical expertise, first aid training, or practical skills, your help could make a real difference.

Community Speedwatch Group

We are investigating setting up a local Community Speedwatch Group. This would allow us to measure traffic speed at locations other than the site of our speed monitor located in Deacon Road. If you interested in being part of a Community Speedwatch Group please let us know.

Village Hall Volunteers & Trustees

The Village Hall is at the heart of our community, providing a space for events, meetings, and activities. They are looking for volunteers to help support its running—there are currently 2 vacancies for a trustee to be part of the team who run the Village Hall. No prior experience is required—just an interest in helping to maintain and improve this valuable community space. If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you!

Neighbourhood Planning Group

Kimpton Parish does not currently have a Neighbourhood Plan, which means we have limited influence over future development. If you are interested in shaping the future of our village—considering housing, green spaces, infrastructure, and community facilities—join our Neighbourhood Planning team. Your input could help protect and enhance our local area for generations to come.
